Policeman Fredrick Weingard was shot and killed near the intersection of Edmund and Wakely Streets, after chasing a man and a woman from a nearby park.
The suspect was shot and wounded by Policeman Weingard's return fire.
Policeman Weingard had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for only 4 months.
