Patrolman William Gallagher and his partner, Patrolman Jesse Hults, died as a result of gunshot wounds they received while investigating a kidnapping. During the course of their investigation, the officers relocated to a hallway outside an apartment on the city's south side. When they demanded entry, they were met with a burst of gunfire
One of the gunmen was shot and killed. Five others were taken into custody at the scene.
Patrolman William Gallagher is survived by his wife, daughter and son.p
