Sergeant Patrick Costello died as a result of a fatal skull fracture while on duty as traffic supervisor.
Sergeant Costello just left the intersection of Halsted and Roosevelt and attempted to jump on a westbound Roosevelt Road trolley when he lost his grip and fell to the pavement, suffering the fatal blow.
He was transported to Alexian Brothers Hospital where he died from his injury.p
