Summary: |
Inspector Loy C. Henry was at his home at 902 Ave C in Del Rio on June 19, 1934. A Mexican male came to the door and asked the location of another mans house, and when he could not be understood, Henry agreed to drive the man to the house. En route the man shot Inspector Henry. He died on June 20, 1934 at 12:30 a.m. Henry, before dying, identified Rafael Dominquez as from photographs as the man who shot him. He said Dominguez was sent by smugglers.
Mexican army forces numbering more than 1,000 men conducted house-to-house searches throughout Northern Mexico for Rafael Dominguez. Dominguez was captured on a ranch near Piedras Negras, across the Rio Grande River from Eagle Pass. He had been hiding at the ranch since his release by municipal authorities from the Villa Acuna, Mexico jail. The United States Government started extradition proceeding to get Dominguez returned to the U.S. It is unknown at this time whether Dominguez was ever extradited to the U.S.
Inspector Henry was married to Ervin T. Henry [Ewin Neely Henry on death certificate] and had one child named Mary in 1930 census. He was buried in the Westlawn Cemetery in Del Rio, Val Verde County, Texas. His death certificate reported he had been a customs inspector for prior 10 years.
