Police Officer Philip Metz was shot and killed after responding to an alarm call at a local business at approximately 7:00 am.
He met the business manager and a security company employee at the business in order to check on it. The business had also received an alarm call earlier in the morning. While inside of the business the three men approached the manager's office. Officer Metz entered the office first and was immediately shot by one of the suspects. The suspects then shot and killed the security employee and wounded the store manager.
After making the manager open the safe the suspects fled the scene. A total of seven suspects were later apprehended and convicted.
Officer Metz had served with the Montgomery County Police Department for nine years.
