Bio: Tommy Harper was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Harper of Pine Bluff.
He was reared in Pine Bluff and graduated from Pine Bluff High School.
Constable Harper married Susan Stuckey Harper June 3, 1965.
He was a carman for the Cotton Belt Railroad since 1963 and was the constable at Sulphur Springs for the past two years.
He was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Pine Bluff Lodge, Number, 69, F and AM.
He was the former fire chief of the Watson Chapel Fire Department and was a former member of the Jefferson County Mounted Patrol. |

Summary: |
Constable Tommy Harper died of injuries he received when he was struck by a car near the intersection of Highway 54 and Luckwood Road, about three miles southwest of Pine Bluff.
Johnson said Harper was hit by the car while he was standing in the leftbound lane of Highway 54. He was helping direct traffic away from the scene of traffic accident nearby on Luckwood Road. Officers from the Jefferson County sheriff's office and the State Police also were helping direct traffic.
Harper was struck by the car at about 10:15 p.m. The car was driven by Joyce Petty, 48, of Route 1. The State Police investigated the circumstances of the incident.
Constable Harper was able to push two state troopers to safety before being struck.
Harper was admitted to the emergency room of Jefferson Regional Medical Center at 11:05 p.m. and died at 11:26 p.m., according to Havis Hester, Jefferson County coroner. Hester said he died from multiple injuries.
