Summary:
Officer Charles J. Callemyn was killed in a single vehicle accident while responding to back up another officer on a traffic stop.
Officer Callemyn lost control of his vehicle on Holloway Street and struck the underpass of North Carolina Highway 70 at approximately 3 am.
Officer Callemyn had served with the Durham Police Department for 2 years and had previously served with the Duke University Police Department for 6 years. He was a US Marine Corps veteran and the US Army Reserves veteran of the War on Terror. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
