Bio: Airhart joined the Police Department in 1982, the oldest child of four raised on the South Shore.
Airhart took pride in his job, from the neatness of his uniform to the immaculately organized notes he would turn in after a long interview. He loved older cars and traveling, proudly showing off a photograph of himself on a camel in Egypt, colleagues said.
In the months after the shooting, Airhart astonished doctors with his progress despite his brain injuries. But in 2002, Airhart suffered seizures, impairing further recovery. Airhart eventually didn't recognize colleagues in visits. |

- 45 years old
During his trial, Salley acted as his own attorney. He admitted the bank robberies, but said he didn't consider them criminal acts. He also told the jury that federal agents shot Airhart and tried to pin the blame on him.
The jury returned a quick verdict of guilty on all counts in about two hours. Salley faces more than 100 years in prison when he is sentenced, prosecutors said.
