Fatal Incident Summary
Offender: No Info
Summary: In the early morning hours, Special Agent Watson, on assignment in Bogota, had exited an upscale restaurant after having dinner with friends and caught a cab. A few blocks later, his cab was stopped by another cab, carrying three men with knives who extracted Agent Watson from his cab, in an apparent robbery attempt.

During the encounter, the subjects stabbed Agent Watson a number of times in the chest and leg. The subjects abandoned Agent Watson lying in the street and he was discovered a short time later by a police patrol. He was rushed to a local hospital but he had already died.

Local authorities state the attack does not appear to be work-related. This type of crime is common in the larger cities of Columbia.

Disposition: Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said "this crime will not go unpunished."

Acting State Department deputy spokesman Patrick Ventrell said US embassy security officials were working closely with Colombian authorities to investigate, but stressed it appeared to have been a robbery.
