Summary: Auxiliary Constable Frederick Abel and Corporal Bud Johanson were working at Lethbridge Detachment in Alberta at the time of their death.

They were working together when they received a call of a suspected impaired driver, driving a pick up truck East bound in the West bound lanes of Highway 3. The highway is a divided four lane highway that travels through Lethbridge. They were on their way to investigate the complaint and were driving West bound on highway 3.

About 7 km West of Lethbridge, their police car collided with the pick up truck traveling on the wrong side of the road. The resulting head on collision killed the officers and the occupants of the pick up truck.
