Constable Magdic, was returning from a routine call on Long Plain First Nation when his northbound Chevrolet Tahoe police truck went off the east side of a curve in the road and rolled. The police vehicle was destroyed in the accident. There were no witnesses to the accident, police believe it happened shortly after 8 p.m. Constable Magdic notified dispatch he was clear of the Long Plain call at 7:50 p.m. At 8:05 p.m., a passerby notified police of the accident using Magdic's hand-held radio.
Constable Magdic became an RCMP constable in December of 2000. His first posting was at the Portage detachment. At the time of the accident, he was assigned to rural patrol duties. "He was a junior member. "A lot of members were getting to know him. He was a pretty easy going guy. "His family was very proud that he was a member."
