Summary: Officer Justin Winebrenner was shot and killed at approximately 2am early Saturday morning in a bar, Papa Don's Pub, located in the 1800 block of E. Market Street, Akron OH.

Officer Winebrenner had entered the bar earlier while off-duty, along with a fellow officer. Approximately 2a, a disturbance occurred between Bar Management and the suspect. The Suspect was ejected from the bar and returned a short time later with a firearm.

Officer Winebrenner was looked to by employees to assist and he began to try and talk the Suspect out of the firearm. At this point, Officer Winebrenner, like other Police Dept.s, changed to an on-duty status.

While talking to Officer Winebrenner, the suspect began shooting, hitting four other persons, along with Officer Winebrenner.

Suspect fled bar and was captured by Police a short time later with the help of their K-9 Patrol.

All victims were rushed to area hospitals. Officer Winebrenner was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 am at Akron City Hospital.
