Bio: John was born in Falmouth, MA and received Student of the Year at Lawrence Junior High School, graduated from Falmouth High and received a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice at Westfield State College.

He moved to FL six years ago and joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. John was also a founding member of the agency’s SafetyNet Team, which assists in finding adults and children with special needs who have wandered from home. Location: Selmon Expressway FL   USA   Sat. Mar. 12, 2016
Summary: Deputy Sheriff John Kotfila was killed in a head-on collision with a vehicle that was driving the wrong direction on the Selmon Expressway, at the Brandon Express exit near I-75, at approximately 3:00 am.

He was returning to the station after investigating an unrelated traffic accident when a drunk driver entered the expressway heading west in the eastbound lanes, causing a head-on collision. The drunk driver died at the scene. Deputy Kotfila was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.
