Bio: Shawn Glenn Miller was born February 5, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa to Jerry and Mary (Glenn) Miller. He grew up in West Des Moines and attended Dowling High School, graduating in the class of 1987. Shawn pursued his education at Upper Iowa University earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree, and was most recently attending Drake University to fulfill a Master's Degree in Public Administration.
Following his graduation at Dowling High School, Shawn proudly served his country in the Iowa National Guard #186 as a Military Police Officer. His overseas deployments consisted of time spent in northern Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Desert Storm.
On March 18, 1990, Shawn was united in marriage to Shannon Renee Wolfkill. The couple made their home in West Des Moines and have been blessed with three children, Samantha, Shawn, and Seth.
Shawn began his career as a correctional officer at the Iowa Correctional Institution before becoming a 26-year veteran of the West Des Moines Police Department; where he was most recently receiving a promotion to Sergeant on August 19. His mission was to serve his community and treat others with the respect they deserve, never judge people, and equally serve his peers. Shawn's colleagues saw him as a strong leader who was willing to help anyone. Everyone at the West Des Moines Police Department, local law enforcement, and all public servants will miss his leadership and strong involvement within law enforcement.
Away from his career, Shawn was a member of the VFW Post 9127, American Legion, Teamster Local #238, Iowa State Police Association, Police Benevolent Association, and served as a Firearms, Taser, and RAID instructor.
Most of all, Shawn loved spending time with Shannon and his three children. They have many timeless memories fishing, playing cards, horseback riding, and traveling as a family. |
