Bio: Jake was born in Columbus, Ohio to Marlin and Rebecca Pickett. He graduated from Brownsburg High School. Jake took the necessary steps of starting his law enforcement career, and graduated from the Marion County Sheriff's Office Training Academy in 2010 and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2014 with class 202, and was a pistol expert
He was employed with the Marion County Sheriff's Office from 2010-2013 as a detention deputy and was on the sheriff's presentation corps. Jake moved on to the Tipton County Sheriff's Department from 2013-2015 serving as a Deputy.

Jacob was a beloved husband and caring father. His selflessness emulated everyday. In uniform he would greet children at school or organize a Christmas card drive for a child. When off-duty he would rescue animals with his wife. The happiest day for Jacob was when he became a father.

Summary: |
Deputy Sheriff Jake Pickett succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained two days earlier while attempting to apprehend a wanted subject.
The subject had fled from Lebanon police officers who had gone to his home to serve a warrant on a different person. The officers recognized the man as also having warrants but he fled in a vehicle with two other people when the officers tried to take him into custody. Deputy Pickett, a canine handler, joined the pursuit until it came to a stop on Indian Springs Road.
The wanted man fled on foot with Deputy Pickett and his canine in pursuit. Deputy Pickett was shot in the head as he rounded the corner of a building. The subject was shot and wounded by another officer but was able to return to the vehicle and flee again. He was taken into custody following another vehicle pursuit that ended on I-65.
Deputy Pickett was transported to Witham Hospital before being flown to St. Vincent Hospital, in Indianapolis. He was kept on life support until the evening of March 4th, 2018, so that his organs could be donated.
