Summary: Officer Scotty Hamilton was shot and killed at approximately 11:30 pm as he and a Kentucky State Police trooper went to a home to follow up on a car theft earlier that night.

Officer Hamilton started following what looked like fresh tracks in the snow -- leading to the back of the home. As he peered around the back of the house, he was shot several times and died at the scene.

One suspect was taken into custody at the scene. A second suspect(John R. Hall) fled the scene but apprehended several days later without incident in the Stoney Brook area in the Betsy Layne community of Floyd County.
