Summary: |
Officer Tara O'Sullivan was shot and killed while handling a domestic disturbance in the northern Sacramento, CA area.
Approx. 3pm Officer O'Sullivan and her Training Officer responded to a location to assist a woman in getting her belongings at her home where she feared violence from her husband. They all proceeded to the home and while the Offices were standing by, the husband brandished a firearm and began shooting.
Officer O'Sullivan was hit and became disabled immediately. Her partner was able to make it to cover while requesting backup. Even as help arrived, Officer O'Sullivan was not reachable due to constant gunfire by husband. Almost an hour later, a Police armored vehicle arrived and Officer O'Sullivan was then extricated.
Officer O'Sullivan was in dire condition and was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center in a police car, where during surgery Officer O'Sullivan died.
The subject remained barricaded inside the home for several more hours while negotiators communicated with him. He surrendered at 2:00 am the following morning.
