Bio: Andrew J. Gillette was born in Orange County, California, the son of John S. Gillette and Cathy Mrakich Gillette.
He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and the G.I.F.T. Sunday School class. He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS). He loved model trains and was a member of several model train associations.
Andrew came from a long line of law enforcement officers. He proudly served his community as a Deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force.
He was a history buff and loved to watch documentaries and read. Most importantly, Andrew was a family man and loved to travel with his family. |

Summary: |
Corporal Andrew Gillette was shot and killed while he and other deputies attempted to serve a detention order and eviction notice at a home at 3120 Thomas Sumter Highway at 11:30 am.
As Cpl. Gillette and other officers approached the home, susp. Hasty opened fire from within the home, striking Cpl. Gillette in the chest. The bullet pierced the bullet-proof vest Cpl. Gillette was wearing, killing him. Other Offices returned fire upon Susp. Hasty, killing him on scene.
No other Officers were injured.
