Bio: Randall was born on March 9, 1981, in Pittsfield, Mass. to William and the late April French. Randy grew up in Stockbridge, Mass. and graduated from Monument Regional High School. At age 16, he joined the West Stockbridge Fire Department as a firefighter and first responder. At age 18, he completed special police officer training to become a police officer for the Stockbridge Police where he spent his summers working while attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. He graduated with a degree in applied mathematics.
Randy also worked for the Empire Ambulance Service, where he met his wife, Danielle. In 2003, he joined the Troy Police Department; he trained at the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Academy, where he graduated first in his class. Randy quickly distinguished himself as a self motivated, hard working police officer with a relentless work ethic. He earned several citations and commendations for both outstanding police work and bravery.
In 2008, after passing selection testing, Randy was appointed to the Troy Police Department Emergency Response Team (SWAT). Randy was a charismatic and profoundly effective leader. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2009 and in 2010 was made an element leader of one of two entry teams. In 2018, Randy was advanced to the position of tactical team leader, yet another position that he excelled at.
Randy spent several years in the department's Detective Bureau. His brilliant analytical mind coupled with that tenacious work ethic made Randy a fantastic detective. Randy was instrumental in founding the Troy Police Department Cadet Post 4102. He was passionate and enthusiastic about the Cadet Post, and for that effort, in putting the Troy Police Department and the Troy Police Benevolent Association in a positive light in the community, he was awarded the Troy PBA's Owen G. Connally Award.
Randy's last assignment was in the department's Special Operations Section. As the sergeant in charge of the narcotics unit, Randy and his men made countless numbers of drug and firearms related arrests. He was highly respected and loved by his fellow officers and team mates, and by officers all over the state.
Randy was equally passionate about working in emergency medical services. He earned his certification as a New York State critical care technician. In addition to having worked for the R.P.I. Ambulance and Empire Ambulance Service, Randy has worked for the North Greenbush Ambulance since 2013. Randy was also one of the tactical medics for the Troy Police Emergency Response Team. He had a reputation for being calm and cool under pressure and was a very good medic. He has received many letters of thanks from patients that he cared for over the years.
Much like his career in law enforcement, Randy earned the respect and love of his coworkers in E.M.S. Randy had recently been testing to receive his certification as a New York State Paramedic, a skill set he hoped to use as a flight medic when he retired from the Troy Police Department.
Randy loved spending time with his family and his dogs, in fact, he never met a dog he didn't like. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, which he would ride in full uniform to work. He loved to go camping, fishing, in particular, ice fishing. A celebration of Randy's life will be announced and held in the future. For those that wish to remember Randy in a special way, an education fund for Randy's girls is being setup. |

Summary: |
Detective Sergeant Randy French died after contracting COVID-19 while on duty.
======================================================================
Danielle(Wife) dropped her husband off at the hospital on 3/31 for suspected pneumonia. Due to the hospital rules, she was not allowed to come be with him. He ended up testing positive for Coronavirus, and then he rapidly declined.
Within a few days of admission, Randy was on full life support, including an ECMO machine (helps pump your heart). Danielle had to sit at home with their two daughters (12 & 14) only hearing updates by phone and photos as to how her husband was progressing.
Things looked hopeful for awhile when they were able to get him off of the ECMO machine and give him plasma, but he took a turn for the worse and ended up passing on 4/30.

COVID-19, a flu-like virus, originated in Wuhan, China. Worth a mention, the Chinese Government, had a biological research facility in that very province. At this point, it was widely held that COVID-19 was a bat-coronavirus and the first case was discovered in Wuhan in Oct. 2019.
On Dec. 31, 2019, Chinese authorities alerted the World Health Organization of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, Hubei province, China, with an unknown cause. Jan 7, 2020 Chinese authorities identify a new type of coronavirus (called novel coronavirus or nCoV).
Despite deaths and an entire Chinese Province(Hubei) quarantined by the Chinese Government, the World Health Organization(WHO) simply declares a global public-health emergency. Despite this serious understatement, on January 31st, President Trump bans foreign nationals from entering the US if they were in China within the prior two weeks. Despite a large public outcry of racism, this move likely saved 1000's of American lives, it would later be deemed.
After a full blown global infection, and an entire country being declared on 'Lockdown'(Italy), on March 11th, WHO declared the outbreak a pandemic. This same day, President Trump bans all travel from 26 European countries. On Mar. 13th, a US national emergency is declared over the novel coronavirus outbreak.
On Mar. 23rd, New York City confirms 21,000 cases, making it the biggest epicenter of the outbreak in the US. On Mar. 31, more than 1/3 of humanity is under some form of lockdown. On Apr. 2nd, the world passes one million COVID-19 infections.
On April 7th, roughly 95% of all Americans are under lockdown, as 42 states issue stay-at-home orders. The entire American economy has ground to a halt. Congress passed laws awarding trillions in grants, loans and other types of assistance to the American working population and businesses.
