Officer Jairo Rodriguez was struck and killed while directing traffic near Lafayette Street and Broad Street after a concert at the Prudential Center in Newark around 12:45 a.m.
Sources close to the investigation have identified the driver involved in the accident as Newark Police Sergeant Victor Ortiz, who was reportedly driving his personal vehicle.
Officer Rodriguez was transported to University Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
