Summary: Detective Sergeant Thomas Cochran succumbed to injuries sustained the previous day when he responded to a call which involved a suicidal man.

The detective sergeant's police vehicle encountered an icy patch on the roadway. This caused the vehicle to strike a concrete wall. Detective Sergeant Cochran was thrown from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Lawrenceburg police officer Thomas Cochran died Tuesday night from injuries suffered during a car accident. Thomas Cochran, 56, was on duty and responded to a call to help other police officers on a call with a suicidal man Tuesday morning on state route 48 when he skidded on a patch of ice and lost control of his vehicle. His car struck a retaining wall and Cochran was ejected from the vehicle. Investigators believe road conditions were a factor in the crash.

Thomas L. Cochran, 56, of Aurora was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 1:53 a.m.
