Officer James Donohoe was shot to death by a suspected robber on the platform of the Market-Frankford Elevated Station at 11th Street. Officer Donohoe had gone into the subway after learning of the holdup of a dry cleaner. The suspect shot Officer Donohoe twice at close range.
The suspect was later shot and killed by police in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
Officer Donohoe was survived by his wife and daughter.
