Summary: |
Police Officer James Manier was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a drunk man on Haynes Street, near Peters Street. Officer Manier was standing in front of a store when the man approached, cursing as he walked towards the officer. When Officer Manier grabbed the man by the belt to arrest him the man suddenly produced a revolver and shot him in the face. Officer Manier was killed instantly.
The suspect tried to flee but was chased by the store owner and apprehended a short distance away.

The suspect was convicted of Officer Manier's murder and sentenced to death. He was hanged at the Fulton County Jail on March 18, 1908. |
