Summary: |
Deputy Lennon was killed in an automobile accident while assisting the North Carolina Highway Patrol with a pursuit. He was passing a vehicle which had only pulled half way out of a travel lane when another vehicle turned off of a side road directly into his path. In order to avoid a head-on collision Deputy Lennon took evasive action, causing him to lose control and strike a utility pole.
The suspect was arrested a short time later and charged with involuntary manslaughter and numerous traffic violations. He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on May 3, 1993, and sentenced to eight years in prison. He was paroled on November 1, 1995. He was sent back to prison on April 29, 2002, for a hibitual felon conviction. He was paroled on April 28, 2007.
Deputy Lennon was survived by his wife. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
